Hawaii

Bishops Museum, Waikiki Aquarium, Pam and Phil, North Shore, Manoa Valley, Miscellaneous

Ahh well, here we are in Hawaii. Based on the island of Oahu, with the famous Waikiki beach almost on our door step, we have eight weeks to enjoy island life and take in some of the sights that I may have missed from my previous trip way back in '91.

Not too many pictures on this page, but you can check out my first cultural stop at the Bishops Museum and there are some nice pictures from the Waikiki Aquarium. Dont forget to also check out what we got up to when Pam and Phil visited at the end of June. Pam and I also did a short two night trip up along part of the North Shore at the beginning of Pams trip. My final outing in Hawaii took me to the Manoa Valley. And of course a final collection of Miscellaneous pics to look at!

View of Diamond Head, a now extinct volcanic crater which has a superb view from up top. Its well worth the effort in getting to the top, so I will have to do it again this trip round. Diamond head got its modern name when visiting sailors in the 19th century mistakenly thought calcite crystals were diamonds, and the name has stuck since.

So...anyone have any experience of hunting for calcite crystals? If so drop me a line and I will keep my eyes out for some!

Daves off his trolley!

Actually we are both on a trolley. Despite a very good bus service, Waikiki has a collection of 'trolley' services that run to various places in and out of town - any excuse to make more money I guess, they are very touristy. We took this trolley (which happened to be free) to Hilo Hatties, a 'fashion centre' dealing in plenty of Hawaiian shirts and other merchandise. Needless to say with clothes shopping not being my best subject in life, I came away with a new book and some chocolate!
